Belneftekhim deems reverse oil deliveries across Poland via Druzhba pipeline possible by year end
Minsk. The Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim believes that oil may be delivered across Poland via the oil pipeline Druzhba operating in reverse mode to Belarusian oil refineries by the end of 2020, BelTA learned from Belneftekhim Chairman Andrei Rybakov on 2 March.
Asked whether Belneftekhim looks forward to reverse oil deliveries via the oil pipeline Druzhba, the official said they did not rule out the possibility.
“The relevant work is in progress. It is also a logistic direction we are working on with Polish colleagues. We will keep the public informed once concrete steps and concrete deliveries are made,” Andrei Rybakov noted.
Andrei Rybakov also confirmed that work is also in progress on alternative deliveries via the northern direction – Baltic Sea ports. “Upon instructions of the head of state we continue taking steps to diversify oil deliveries to our oil refineries, including to Naftan,” the official said. The Belneftekhim chairman reminded that Mozyr Oil Refinery will get oil from Azerbaijan among other sources now.
Asked about fuel sales on the home market, Andrei Rybakov said: “Everything relating to the domestic market is being done. We have no issues or shortages on the domestic market.”
On 28 February PERN Company, which operates the Polish part of the oil pipeline system Druzhba, mentioned plans to transport crude oil in the eastern direction. “PERN decided that the eastern part of the Druzhba pipeline should have the capability to pump crude oil, that is, to pump crude oil from Plock to Adamowo. Oil is transported only in the opposite direction at present. Making the company's logistics network more flexible while bolstering Poland's energy security is the idea. The company has already started looking for a contractor for this project,” the company said.
In turn, Belneftekhim said they were ready for practical negotiations on oil import via oil pipelines operating in reverse mode. Reverse deliveries in the Belarusian part of the oil pipeline system are technically possible.
