Putin urges business to take part in development of domestic gas motor fuel market
Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that domestic businesses should take part in the development of the natural gas based motor fuel market in the country.
"I would like to propose the following initiative to our leading companies: to take part in the development of the market of natural gas based motor fuel, which is more environmentally friendly," the head of state said at a meeting with representatives of the Russian business.
He stressed that this work is particularly promising in the industrial centers of Russia, informs TASS.
According to the Russian leader, this concerns "creating a modern infrastructure, a network of gas stations, as well as the transfer of corporate, public and municipal transport to liquefied natural gas."
"Of course, such projects need careful calculations: in addition to the impact on the environment, it is necessary to evaluate their profitability, to achieve this profitability, to achieve an economic effect," Putin said.
"We won’t force them [such projects] to anyone as some kind of load to current activities, but if we achieve positive indicators, we will ensure the natural development of the natural gas based engine fuel segment. This should also affect the stabilization of prices on the market of petroleum products and the fuel itself in general and gas engine fuel - in particular," Putin said.
In 2013, the President set the task to bring Russia to the leading position in the world in the use of gas engine fuel. According to a government resolution that was adopted back then, by 2020, up to 50% of public transport and municipal equipment should be transferred to natural gas based engine fuel in Russian cities with a population of over one million people. In cities with a population of more than 300,000, this figure should reach up to 30%, and in the settlements with the population of more than 100,000 people it should be up to 10%.
