Rosneft denies reports on Enis withdrawal from JV

May 14, 2018/ 14:30

Moscow. Russian oil giant Rosneft rejected media reports on Monday that its cooperation with Italy’s Eni on geological exploration on the Russian shelf has been suspended over the US sanctions.

"Information on Eni’s withdrawal from JV with Rosneft does not correspond to reality. Rosneft and Eni remain partners on JV," the Russian company said in a statement.

In its turn, Italian oil major Eni said the company would continue meeting its commitments as long as international sanctions allowed this, informs TASS.

Eni is one of Rosneft’s strategic partners in exploring Russia’s continental shelf, namely the Barents Sea and the Black Sea. In December 2017, the companies started joint drilling on the Black Sea’s shelf.

On April 6, the United States announced imposing new sanctions against a number of Russian officials, businessmen and companies. The list includes Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, VTB CEO Andrei Kostin, owner of Renova Viktor Vekselberg, Director General of Surgutneftegaz Vladimir Bogdanov, Member of Sibur Board of Directors Kirill Shamalov, businessmen Igor Rotenberg, Oleg Deripaska and Suleiman Kerimov.
