Washington. D.C. A group of senators from the Republican and Democratic parties, the United States demanded that the administration of President Donald trump has blocked the pipeline project «Nord stream — 2». This publication reports The Washington Examiner.

«We are concerned that continuing development of the pipeline project «Nord stream — 2». We opposed the «Nord stream — 2″ and insist that the administration (of President Donald trump — ed.) used all available means to prevent construction of this pipeline,» reads the parliamentary message to the Minister of Finance Steven Mnuchin and Deputy Secretary John Sullivan at the disposal of edition.

The senators are convinced that in case of realization of the project «U.S. allies and partners in Europe will be under even greater malicious influence on the part of Russia».

The authors of the appeal urged to use «all available tools».

The project «Northern stream — 2» involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to be build next to the existing «Northern stream». The total cost of the project is estimated at 9.5 billion euros.

The assistant Secretary Sandra Odekirk previously stated that the success of the project «Northern stream — 2» would mean massive geostrategic consequences for the United States and the EU. She called the worst for the US scenario «closing the market for alternative LNG and increased due to the «Nord stream — 2» the Russian «Gazprom», which, in its opinion, may cause monopolization of the market.
